What is the difference between speed and velocity?

OpenStudy (shane_b):

\[Speed = \frac{distance}{time}\]whereas \[Velocity = \frac{displacement}{time}\] As you can see, one involves distance and the other involves displacement. Therefore, speed is a scalar value and velocity is a vector (it has both speed and direction).
