How would I do this problem? Find the value of x. The measure of arc AB = 50 degrees and the measure of arc CD = 24 degrees. The figure is not drawn to scale.

x will be the average of the 2 intercepted arcs

OpenStudy (amistre64):

i think thats the best generalization ive ever seen for these things for a central angle, the arcs are equal: (a+a)/2 = a for an angle on the edge, one of the arcs is zero: (a+0)/2 = a/2 and of course in this case: (a+b)/2 now if i can only remember that :/

OpenStudy (amistre64):

if we continue this thought it works as well: if the angle moves out of the circle; the arc in back become negative .. |dw:1370533637995:dw| x = (a-b)/2
