OpenStudy (anonymous):

can anyone explain to me the concept of dx/dy? Does it just mean x primed?

OpenStudy (dumbcow):

"dx/dy" is derivative of x with respect to y, or change in "x" for every unit of "y" yes it can be denoted as x prime

OpenStudy (amistre64):

x' is a general notation that carries a certain aire of mystery about it. it is only by knowing the "with respect to" portion of it that you can then define it as: x' = dx/dy

OpenStudy (amistre64):

if we have x', such that the equation was "with respect to x"; then x' = dx/dx = 1 if we have x', such that the equation was "with respect to t"; then x' = dx/dt etc ...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

It can be understood in two ways- 1.As tangents of the points corresponding to the graph. 2.As the rate of change of a quantity with respect to other.

OpenStudy (fozia):

it means derivative of x with respect to y

OpenStudy (wesdg1978):

d Optimus/dx = Optimus Prime HaHa
