Why did suburbs in the United States grow in the period after World War II? lack of jobs in urban areas due to economic recession sent Americans looking for work in the suburbs lack of housing in cities due to lingering war damage led Americans to abandon urban homes government programs forced families from cities to settle rural areas growing families moved out of crowded urban areas to seek more space
1) Lack of jobs - Immediately after WWII, many U.S. women who had been working in industry (which was unusual to that point) to support the war made the choice to stay in the workforce. Certain types of manufacturing simply shut down. This seems like it could go either way. 2) War damage in mainland U.S.A.? I don't think so. That certainly would have been a problem Poland, for example. 3) It is unlikely that government programs have forced many from their homes in the United States. Important exceptions being Native Americans and the Mormon Persecution era. These were not nearly as active in the 20th century as they were in the 19th. Should be hardly any of this by 1945. 4) Baby boomers? Lots of kids? Family size grew substantially.

Nope, I'm not answering questions. In a history class, you must discuss and reason it out.
