FIND THE CIRCUMFERENCE FOR THE TWO. Leave your answer in terms of pi.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

OpenStudy (mathstudent55):

The circumference of a circle is given by the formula below: C = (pi)d = 2(pi)r d = diameter; r = radius For the first circle, you have its diameter, so use C = (pi)d For the second circle, you have its radius, so use C = 2(pi)r

OpenStudy (jim766):

in the first one what is the diameter?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

4.5

OpenStudy (jim766):

now use the formula @mathstudent55 gave you c = π d just put in the diameter, leave the pi alone

OpenStudy (jim766):

what do you get?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

what is the d?

OpenStudy (jim766):

d is diameter

OpenStudy (jim766):

you told me the diameter was 4.5

OpenStudy (anonymous):

is it?

OpenStudy (jim766):

yes, it is, just substitute it in the equation c = πd

OpenStudy (jim766):

ok, this is what I mean... c = pi(4.5) done that is the answer

OpenStudy (jim766):

now in the 2nd one the give you radis, which is only half of a diameter, right?

OpenStudy (jim766):

so this time we need to use C = 2(r) pi what is the radis?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I'm not getting the correct answer for the first one

OpenStudy (jim766):

what are you getting?

OpenStudy (jim766):

how do you know it is not correct?

OpenStudy (mathstudent55):

c = 4.5(pi) is the same as c = (pi)4.5

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i got the wrong answr

OpenStudy (anonymous):

you dont give good help...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@jim_thompson5910

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

it said 4.5pi was wrong?

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

anyways, for the second one, the radius is 20, so the diameter is 2*20 = 40 making the circumference to be d*pi = 40pi

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I got 9.13 for the first one,,

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

it should be 4.5pi for the first one since 4.5 is the diameter

OpenStudy (anonymous):

OH..Lol

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

yeah because it's Circumference = pi * diameter
