OpenStudy (jazzyfa30):

2|2x -1| + 5 = 15

OpenStudy (anonymous):

1) subtract 5 2) divide by 2

OpenStudy (anonymous):

\[2|2x-1|+5=15\]\[2|2x-1|=10\]\[|2x-1|=5\]So, 2x - 1 have to be equal to -5 or 5. \[2x-1=5 <=> x = 3\]\[2x-1=-5 <=> x=-2\] Solutions: x = -2 and x = 5

Oh, thanks :]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yw i wonder whatever happened to the group "latex practice"? it was very useful

OpenStudy (jazzyfa30):

I2x-1I=5

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I've recently started using latex, so, i don't know a lot of expressions. Next time I will google it.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

best thing to do is if you see something you like, right click and view the code

OpenStudy (jazzyfa30):

@FutureMathProfessor please help

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@jazzyfa30 where you are having troubles?

OpenStudy (jazzyfa30):

I thought when when you have absolute value symbols then it is answer is positive

OpenStudy (anonymous):

No, |2x-1| have to be 5. So 2x - 1 can be -5 or 5, because |-5| = 5 and |5| = 5. So, 2x - 1 = -5 , x = -2 and 2x -1 = 5, x = 3

OpenStudy (anonymous):

In my first solutions in the end i've writed solutions: x = -2 and x = 5, it's incorrect, it's x = -2 and x = 3.

OpenStudy (jazzyfa30):

wait so how did you get x=-2 from 2x-1=-5

OpenStudy (anonymous):

2x - 1 = -5 2x = -5 + 1 2x = -4 x = -2

OpenStudy (jazzyfa30):

oh okay thank you

OpenStudy (anonymous):

you welcome :]
