You are going to to need to use log's to change the base of each side to be 12 (or 144). This will allow you to pull out the 2x (or x) and then you can solve for x.

Also I missspoke (typed?) you dont need to change the base, you can do this with just logs.

Well you know that \[ Y^a = a* log(Y) \] right? So start by finding out what 12^2 is (because 12^(2x) = ((12^2)^x) ) Then you will need to take the log of both sides so you will get xlog(Y) = log(Z). Then divide by the log(Y), and if you need to simplify use the other properties of logs to factor it.
