@ganeshie8 help me out?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@jim_thompson5910 help?

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

Hint: corresponding angles are congruent (if you're dealing with parallel lines)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

8?

OpenStudy (whpalmer4):

Do you think the lines going diagonally are parallel?

OpenStudy (ivettef365):

is not 8

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes @whpalmer4

OpenStudy (whpalmer4):

Oh, wrong answer :-) Think about complementary angles — they always add to 180 degrees. The angle on the left side of a diagonal line (above the line) and the right side have to sum to 180. That isn't the case here, is it?

OpenStudy (whpalmer4):

if the angle on the left was 110 instead of 115, then the lines would be parallel as a would = 70 and b would = 110. So, only the diagonal line on the right makes 70 degree angles. It makes a pair of them per line it crosses (we know they are parallel because they make identical angles with the other diagonal line). How many in total will there be?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

6?@whpalmer4

OpenStudy (whpalmer4):

no, that should be "6 @whpalmer4"! Say it with some confidence :-)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thank you!!@whpalmer4

OpenStudy (whpalmer4):

you're welcome.
