What is the graph of the absolute value equation? y = |x + 4

OpenStudy (anonymous):

looks like \(y=|x|\) shifted to the left 4 units

but y it shifts?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

why does it shift?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

you can think of it this way for \(y=|x|\) you know it is only zero if \(x=0\) and that is where it sits on the \(x\) axis for \(y=|x+4|\) it is zero at \(x=-4\) so it is shifted 4 units left
