Tell me if I'm right ! Which of the following is not an equivalent form of the compound inequality x + 15 less than or greater to 12 and x + 15 greater than or equal to 5 Answers : 12 greater than or equal to x + 15 greater than or equal to 5 −3 greater than or equal to x greater than or equal to −10 A number line with a closed circle on −10, a closed circle on −3, and shading in between. A number line with a closed circle on −10, shading to the left, and a closed circle on −3, shading to the right.

I think the answer is the last one " A number line with a closed circle on −10, shading to the left, and a closed circle on −3, shading to the right. " am I right?

it'd be so much better if you'd just give us a picture :)

OpenStudy (jdoe0001):

all this line close, divided by blue line and over and under with dots and so forth hehe

You wrote: "x + 15 less than or greater to 12 and x + 15 greater than or equal to 5" Do you mean "x + 15 less than or EQUAL to 12 and x + 15 greater than or equal to 5"?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes I do sorry!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@jdoe0001 okay :)

OpenStudy (mathstudent55):

x + 15 <= 12 and x + 15 >=5 Solve both inequalities: x <= -3 and x >= -10

OpenStudy (mathstudent55):

This means that x is greater than or equal to -10 and x is less than or equal to -3. That means x is every number from -10 to -3, including -10 and -3.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so it would be shaded in between?

OpenStudy (mathstudent55):

You are correct. The last choice is the incorrect answer to the compound inequality.

OpenStudy (mathstudent55):

yes, the shading is in between.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so the answer is the last one right ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@mathstudent55 So since it says NOT the answer will be the last one?

OpenStudy (nubeer):

yes it should be that one..

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Thanks so much Nubeer :)

OpenStudy (nubeer):

you're welcome.
