I think western society is in its golden age. I think this because it has spread to every continent on the face of the planet. Music usually associated with western culture is pop, rock, and my of course country music. Intellectually western society usually offers free public education but colleges normally cost to money attend. You can also acquire a scholarship by other means or receive a grant and study at a college for a reduced price or entirely free. Western medicine can be good and bad. Yes we now have more powerful and concentrated medicines that can help or treat problems but a lot of them have some undesired side effects due to their chemical nature. Also modern western medicine practitioners for some reason underestimate natural medicines when natural medicine should always be considered first before taking a man made substance. In western society politics and economics run hand in hand quite a bit since powerful politicians have a big influence not just in western economy but in world economy but like any other economy western economy is mainly maintained through trade. Most westernized countries carry a form of democracy similar to the one the United States was formed under. Politicians are elected into congress by peoples votes and then after they are elected they can run for higher offices if they wish much like climbing a ladder. Social developments from western society are things like the idea that we all have rights, like a right to free speech, equal treatment, and a fair trial as long as you didn’t do a crime against the government or foreign interest group, like a bank. The United States has hundreds of charities that help people and children in need we also fund the red cross. Other social developments are things like social networking like Facebook, youtube, or reddit , they are websites that help people connect and communicate as well as share pictures or videos.

I just turned it in and thought someone might use it as an example or use it just change it a little c: 01.04 The Golden Age of Islam: Honors Assignment If I had to choose a place that had a society that I believe was in its golden age, it would have to be Spain. Spanish society has had a very big influence on every part of the world. It has many artistic achievements such as its wonderful music and dance spreading across the world, its lovely natural remedies, Spain’s economy being at the number 46 of the list of the freest economies, as well as having a constitutional monarchy governed under the constitution of 1978, and let’s not forget the social development that helps the good people of Spain! Spanish culture is jam-packed with traditional music and dance. In fact, at one point there were over 200 traditional dances documented. Spain’s music and dance has been heard in many place, even right here in the United States! Spain’s most known dance would be the Flamenco. Flamenco is a passionate form of music and dance combining Jewish, Moorish and Andalucían influences but until Flamenco came along you had Fandango, which was Spain's most famous dance before Flamenco. Fandango is a lively, energetic and happy traditional Spanish dance performed in pairs. While Flamenco is a very famous sort of dance known all around the world, it did not come to be in Spain until the nineteenth century. Apart from the wonderful dances they dance in Spain as well as all around the world, you also have the lovely music that originated from Spain. The Music of Spain has a long history which has had an important impact on music in Western culture. Although the music of Spain is often associated with traditions like flamenco and the acoustic guitar, Spanish music often changes from region to region! Did you know that the bag pipes aren’t only used to make Irish music? Spanish bagpipe music of Galicia and Asturias speaks for Spain’s Celtic heritage and while Flamenco is a much known form of music and dance it’s only heard in the Andalusian region. (Andalusia is the most populous and the second largest in area of the autonomous communities in Spain). Spain may have many lovely songs but they aren’t as great as all the natural remedies that are used to kill illnesses. Spain has had a vibrant herbal medicine industry for many centuries. Herbal stores have sold medicinal plans for diabetics, food with no gluten, ecologically approved products, as well as vitamins and minerals. The stores also provide dietic advice and consultation services. Natural or herbal medicinal advances in Spain are becoming far better recognized, with water and exercise therapies also becoming accepted as methods of healing, as with diets and hygiene. Most of these natural medical practices were established by some doctors not wanting to use modern medicine and wanted to find alternative healing method for illnesses. While Spain has many accomplishments and wonderful music there is also a downside to the wonderful place. Spain’s economic freedom score is 68, making its economy the 46th freest in the 2013 Index out of 185 places around the world (Only 177 of those are scored, though.) Spain is ranked 22nd out of 43 countries in the Europe region. The top income tax rate is 56 percent, and the top corporate tax rate is 30 percent. The overall tax burden equals 31.7 percent of total domestic income. You could imagine that Spain’s population of 46.2 million wouldn’t be too happy about this. Spain was undergoing some financial issues a while back and in 2012 Spain’s economic crisis turned into a political crisis as well. Spain's mixed capitalist economy is the 13th largest in the world and its per capita income roughly matches that of Germany and France. To connect with Spain’s economy, we have Spain’s government. Spain is a constitutional monarchy governed under the constitution of 1978 that is led by the prime minister; the king chooses the prime minister, who must be approved by the legislature. There are 350-seat Congress of Deputies, who are elected by popular vote. There are 259 members of the Senate, 208 of which are directly elected, while 51 are appointed by regional legislatures; they all serve a four year term. The country is divided into 17 and 2 autonomous cities (Ceuta and Melilla) -- each of which have its own parliament and regional government. Finally, we have Spain’s social development, which helps workers in the work place. The social insurance system that is connected to Spain’s social development, provides pensions for employees in industry and services. It also has a special system for the self-employed, farmers, domestic workers, seamen and coal miners. The system is funded through employee and employer contributions, and an annual government subsidy. The fund are collected to help for health and maternity benefits, old age and incapacity insurance as well as, a widow and widower pension, orphan pension, a family subsidy, workers' compensation, job-related disability payments, unemployment insurance and a funeral grant. Retirement is set at age 65, but is allowed at age 64 under certain conditions and Maternity benefits are payable for 16 weeks, and is applicable to adoption as well; fathers may also take parental leave! Sounds great, doesn’t it? You would think so, but, discrimination against women in the workplace continues even now, although it is illegal to do so. Traditional attitudes towards women leads them not being hired or paid. The female rate of unemployment is about twice that for men and the median salary for women was 30% lower than that of men! The government of Spain is trying to change this and works very hard and trying to get this to not happen. Even though Spain has a few tiny things here or there that need fixing, you have to agree that Spain is in its Golden age. Spain has accomplished getting its music and dance as well as its natural remedies for illnesses around the world, its government and economy are fixing and it has many benefits for people in the work place. I know this question was asked a year ago, but for help to future FLVS students, look into Sweden and Singapore for your essay. Singapore and Sweden continuously top the charts with the world's best school system. Singapore's economy ranks #2 with a $64,68.48 per capita. In the Global Information Technology report also ranked #2, showing the country's readiness to use their benefits of technology. I know there are other topics you have to touch base with in your essay, but I hope that helped (:
