Identify which distributive property problem below would help you solve the following scenario: Your Math class has 32 students. You would like to treat the class to cookies. You would like each person to have 5 cookies. Which expression would be a quick way to figure out how many cookies you would need to bake?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Well the numbers you have are 32 and 5. What can you do with the numbers?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

You have 32 students and they each need to have 5 cookies. What multiplication can you put into that?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

32 + 5x?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Well you don't have to have an x in this problem. Think logically for a second. If you were going to make enough cookies for 32 people that they would have 5 each, how many cookies would you have to make?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

5 times 32

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Perfect! So how would you put 5 times 32 into a numeric expression.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

5(32 + 2) ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Why +2?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

its one of my problems in my book and that was a option

OpenStudy (anonymous):

What are the options?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

5(32 + 2) 5(30 + 2) 5(32 − 2) 5(30 − 2)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

32=30+2.so,the correct expression would be 5(30+2)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Because of PEMDAS you would have to solve everything in the parenthesis first.
