Phase shift, amplitude & period of: y=(pi)cos(2x)+pi

OpenStudy (dan815):

didnt we do this already

OpenStudy (anonymous):

it's up because I'm still confused

OpenStudy (dan815):

ok u need to understand what each number there does

OpenStudy (anonymous):

tthe phase shift would be 0, presumably, amplitude would be pi. period would be...?

OpenStudy (dan815):

do you know how y=cos(x) looks like

OpenStudy (dan815):

dont worry about the words that really not htat important thats just english stuff

OpenStudy (dan815):

as long as you can picture how the graph looks like or you can draw the graph out thats good enough

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i neeed it for an assignment, that's why.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i dont need to draw a graph

OpenStudy (dan815):

you get a 100/100 in my books if u can picture the graph in your head

OpenStudy (dan815):

T_T... the aim of these questions is to get you think about about the graph

OpenStudy (dan815):

ok look

OpenStudy (dan815):

lemme write it this way, this is y=cos(x) i can also write this as y=1cos(1x+0)+0

OpenStudy (dan815):

this is what you are given now y=picos(2x+0)+pi

OpenStudy (dan815):

can u see what parts of the normal cos(x) graphs are being changed now

OpenStudy (anonymous):

im not blind - im just having issues

OpenStudy (dan815):

im talking about the graph

OpenStudy (dan815):

@Luigi0210 @chris00 @Jhannybean teach this guy

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I don't need to be taught, i just need a simple answer. ><

OpenStudy (dan815):

the answer is already given to you, but u gotta understand it

OpenStudy (dan815):

look at our other post if u just want answer

OpenStudy (anonymous):

.......

OpenStudy (jhannybean):

check out this really cool site that explains in details how to graph trig functions :) <3 purplemath http://www.purplemath.com/modules/grphtrig.htm

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I know how, I'm diabetic and we can't calculate things when we have a low blood sugar and I really just need to know the answer. Plan and simple.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Plain*

OpenStudy (jhannybean):

That's so off topic. :|

OpenStudy (anonymous):

No, it's not.

OpenStudy (jhannybean):

We're here to guide you so YOU can find the answer :P not GIVE you the answer!! :)

OpenStudy (dan815):

listen man!! im trying to help you!! if u dont learn this now... one day u will get very and be like... oh math is actually fun i wish i had learnt more... and ur gonna be 50 and going back to school then

OpenStudy (dan815):

very old*

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Fine then, I'll guess >.> period = 2 Amplitude = pi phase shift = 0

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I'm going to school for astrophysics, I like math, just not functions lol

OpenStudy (dan815):

wut the...

OpenStudy (dan815):

what kind of astrophysics course is this

OpenStudy (anonymous):

u want maths, come to my post. i'm like :|

OpenStudy (dan815):

your period is pi okay

OpenStudy (dan815):

the period of cos(x) = 2pi so the period of cos(2x) = pi because the function will be going twice as fast

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i did this in yr 11 i could help..if ya want

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ah, so i was right before i started over analyzing. soooo... period =pi, amp = pi, phase shift = 0?

OpenStudy (dan815):

dont they teach you quantum physics for astrophysics?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So?

OpenStudy (dan815):

.. soo how can u not like math

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i like math

OpenStudy (anonymous):

south park:' screw this i'm going home'

OpenStudy (anonymous):

im just in a rush & don't particularily enjoy this type of math

OpenStudy (dan815):

ok i see yes this isnt really math

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i know what u mean bro. i didn't like it

OpenStudy (dan815):

how are you liking quantum mechanics tho

OpenStudy (dan815):

i have that after summer break

OpenStudy (anonymous):

chemical engineering is the way to go guys. u hit the bids up.

OpenStudy (dan815):

chemistry is cool too buutt too much tedious stuff

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I hear chemical engineering is hard ^ yea quantum mechanics is pretty epic.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

chemical engineering is soo much work. got midsemseter exams in a week

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i have an exam on the 19th :P i feel your pain
