Why did Abraham Lincoln say, “A house divided against itself cannot stand?” Lincoln did not believe the Union should be divided. Lincoln believed that any house including slaves would eventually fall. Lincoln did not believe that the Northerners should take Southerners' land. Lincoln believed that sectionalism was the only form of government the Union could agree upon.

I think it's A or C.

OpenStudy (goldphenoix):

"Lincoln did not believe the Union should be divided." A nation divided, giving the metaphor of a house as a family. If a family is divided the isn't a family.

But wasn't the Union just the North? (thats what confused me)

OpenStudy (goldphenoix):

Well. The union is supposed to be all the states united. So north and south. But it changed a while. South was called the confederate because they didn't want to be part of USA. So they "left" the union. After the civil war, confederate went bye-bye, and full union is back.

Make sense?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Oh, I get it now. You could so be a teacher ;p

OpenStudy (goldphenoix):

Really? That's nice. :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yes (:

OpenStudy (goldphenoix):

I have to go. Sorry. I see you tomorrow.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Bye bye (:
