can someone explain to me what this question may mean? In the graph below, line k, y = -k makes a 45° angle with the x- and y-axes. Rk: (2, 5) ->

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yea thats why this question is kinda confusing me

OpenStudy (anonymous):

if kwas a constant.. the line would be horizontal and in the negative y region of the graph..Somethings wrong

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

Rk:(2,5) means "reflect the point (2,5) over the line k"

OpenStudy (anonymous):

but then that line k is actually the graph of y=x

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so is k the black line ?

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

I think it should be y = -kx

OpenStudy (anonymous):

sorry graph of y= -x

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

or y = -x actually

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

hmm thought so

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yeah.. typo.. what @jim_thompson5910 makes perfect sense.. reflect it using the line k as your mirror line

OpenStudy (anonymous):

if it was that won't the reflection be (-2,-5)?

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

you find the distance from the point to the line k then you move that same distance from the line k, but on the other side of the line
