The three major monotheistic religions are sometimes described as branches of the same family tree. If this is true, how would you describe the trunk of the tree?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I just.. I don't see how you forget who your teacher is. I'm not freaking yelling at him for forgetting am I? No. >.<

OpenStudy (anonymous):

OpenStudy (anonymous):

What lesson is this?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

1.2

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok ok no more fighting. The trunk is an aspect of the seed... Such a complete tree if observed correctly, is known as the "Tree of Life". All of the various aspects of a tree are contained within a small seed, is it not so. The four major monotheistic religions; Zoroastrianism, Judaism, Christianity and Islam, are the four major branches which sprang forth from the trunk of the tree which descended through Gods (124,000) Messengers and Prophets (peace be upon them all). From these four major branches, countless limbs, twigs and leaves have been created. All of which have been created for the benefit of mankind. All have been perfectly created thus granting mankind a further explanation of the qualities and handiwork of the one mankind has come to refer to as "The Creator, The Nourisher, and The Protector".

How are the three major holy books of the monotheistic faiths both similar and different?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

3. How are the three major holy books of the monotheistic faiths both similar and different? Each of the three monotheistic faiths have their own sacred texts. These texts, or holy books, record the beliefs, the laws, and the histories of its religion. Each holy book expresses the belief in only one god to their existence. The Torah (holy book of Judaism)includes the histories and revelations after Moses. The Bible (holy book of Christianity) is a combination of both the Old Testament and the history and teachings of Jesus as recorded by his disciples in the New Testament. The Qur'an (holy book of Islam) is considered to be the literal word of God, or Allah, which is meant to be recited by followers of the faith.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Similarities: calling for the same basic morals that are important for people to adopt to live in peace, harmony, and love in communities with different faiths and cultures. Examples of such morals are don't kill (without right or authority), don't steal money or others property, don't lei, don't cheat, ... etc., calling for worship of one and only one God (although in the Bible only one is believed in but considered of Trinity nature) , believing in day of judgment and after death life, believing in angel, and believing in God prophets (although not all of them are believed in by the Bible and/or the Torah)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

not sure about the difrences

OpenStudy (anonymous):

How are the basic beliefs of Judaism, Christianity, and Islam alike?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

4. How are the basic beliefs of Judaism, Christianity, and Islam alike? Some beliefs and practices are unique to one religion while others are held in common by two or by all three religions. All three religions put their belief in only one god and also believe in the afterlife. Both Judaism and Islam believe in Sin as an Act while only Christianity believes in Original Sin.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Judaism and Christianity both have the same GOD the only real GOD the GOD of Israel. The difference being Jews don't believe JESUS was the messiah, the savion of the world, the Christians do. islam is like nothing else ever seen, it's more akin to Hitler and the Roman empire than anything else. It seems more like a political group bent on destruction than a religion.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

What types of internal differences and divisions exist within each religion?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i will let anabananaa take over ok sweetie cus i'm chatting with bullet and our newcomer mind :D

OpenStudy (anonymous):

k ;(

OpenStudy (anonymous):

5. What types of internal differences and divisions exist within each religion? Though groups within each religion are united by shared beliefs, they are marked by different customs and ideas. Each religion also has smaller groups known as mystics. These groups exist outside the mainstream because they have unusual ideas or practices. Divisions occur because while they may all believe in the same general idea in a specific faith, they're judged for expressing it in different ways. This creates smaller groups, dividing a religion. **DIVISIONS: Each religion has different sects. Major Jewish sects include Reform, Conservative, and Orthodox. Christianity has many denominations but the largest branches are Catholicism, Protestantism, and Eastern Orthodoxy. The Islamic religion is largely divided between two major groups, Sunni and Shi'a Islam. Smaller sects within the faith, such as Sufism, also exist.**

I'm sorry do you want me too stay

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ya;p

OpenStudy (anonymous):

What characteristics and beliefs of the three religions make them different?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

;) okay ;D

OpenStudy (anonymous):

6. What characteristics and beliefs of the three religions make them different? All three faiths have different holy books, houses of worship, and religious leaders. They also have different sects, denominations, and mystics. All three have some of the same basic beliefs, prophets and messiahs, and holy sites but have added or dropped an idea/belief to one or more of the categories depending on what they put their faith in.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

2: After you have explained the answers to the six questions above, it's your turn to write two questions of your own that you would like to ask any of the religious figures discussed in the lesson (ex. Jesus, Mohammad, Moses). You should also write sample answers to the two questions you create. Your questions and answers should address one of the following topics from the lesson, but should not repeat answers already discussed in this assessment: how the three religions are alike and different what perspective each religion has on the prophets discussed in the lesson what basic beliefs each religion follows what revelations the holy books of the three religions provide and how they relate to one another

Here, for the student questions just use mine as samples(: Student Questions (2) 1. (To Jesus) Do you feel that your disciples honored your request to spread your teachings, with Christianity's amount of followers registering at approximately 2,286,000,000 people, which is 33% of the entire world? Answer (If I were Jesus): Yeah, I would. It took AWHILE to get the "word" spread around, that I can see. But it's hard to put your trust in a religion you know nothing about. Glad people decided to learn more about it! I'm super happy Christianity is the top religion worldwide with so many people that put their faith in me, God, and my disciples. I feel like it's a game of 'Telephone' that never stops ending when we all get together and pass the word on! 2. (To Abraham) How does it feel to know that you're believed to be the patriarch of all three of the major monotheistic religions? Answer(If I were Abraham): I gotta say, it's like a big responsibility just got dropped from the sky and fell on me. It's great to know how vastly the beliefs that were spoken to me have spread, but I feel like I'm recognized out of my family because of it. Everyone today is just like "YAY, ABRAHAM!", but they don't realize how much the entire family contributed to the religions people put their faith in everyday! Islam claims descent through my firstborn son, Ishmael, while both Judaism and Christianity claim that their founders descended through my second son, Isaac. It's great to know the covenant kept on going, especially since it expands to so many religions. Keep it up, everybody! :D

Failure to do so may cause your work to be lost. Question 1 (Multiple Choice Worth 5 points) "Andalus (the Iberian peninsula), which was conquered in the year 92 of the Hijra, continued for many years to be a dependency of the Eastern Khalifate, until it was snatched away from their hands by one of the surviving members of the family of Umeyyah (Umayyad), who, crossing over from Barbary, subdued the country, and formed therein an independent kingdom, which he transmitted to his posterity. During three centuries and a half, Andalus, governed by the princes of this dynasty, reached the utmost degree of power and prosperity, until civil war breaking out among its inhabitants, the Muslims, weakened by internal discord, became every where the prey of the artful Christians, and the territory of Islam was considerably reduced, so much so that at the present moment the worshippers of the crucified hold the greatest part of Andalus in their hands, and their country is divided into various powerful kingdoms, whose rulers assist each other whenever the Muslims attack their territories." —Ibn Said, Book of the Maghrib, in Ahmed ibm Mohammed al-Makkari, The History of the Mohammedan Dynasties in Spain, translated by Pascuual de Gayangos s, (London: Oriental Translation Fund, 1840), 1, 95-102 According to this source, why did Muslim al-Andalus fall? It fell because the Umayyads lost their hold on the Arab Empire. It fell because the divisions within the empire made it vulnerable to attack. It fell because of the superior military forces of the Christian Crusaders. It fell because Muslims from the Eastern Khalifate conquered its lands.

Which best describes the Muslim presence in North Africa in the late seventh and early eighth centuries? Trade connections gave Islam a presence in cities and ports where merchants went. Muslim missionaries first traveled throughout North Africa, and armies followed later. Islam slowly converted the peoples of North Africa without a military takeover. Muslim armies carried their faith west across the top of the entire continent.
