In 1950, why did the Soviet Union object to the inclusion of China as one of the five permanent members of the United Nations Security Council? At the time, communists were attempting to take over China and had yet to succeed. At the time, China was a U.S possession and would vote against Soviet interests China had just become communist and the Soviets did not want another communist nation on the council.

The Chinese Communist party had won the Chinese Civil War in 1949,and were now the government on mainland China. The leaders of the previous Nationalist regimes had ran away to the Chinese island of Taiwan,and maintained a Nationalist regime there.It was the Nationalist regime that had the ambassador to the UN and sat at the Security Council The soviet union wanted the Nationalist ambassador kicked out,to be replaced by one from Communist China,which would then have the power of veto.
