I need help real quick. I dont understand this stuff at all. You roll a blue die and a yellow die. What is P(the sum of the dice is at least 6 | the blue die shows a 4)? Write fractions using the slash ( / ) key. Reduce fractions to their lowest terms.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

hi again! In conditional probability, the sample space reduces. So for here you've got to consider how many throws of the dice will give you 6 from the sample space containing only the events where the blue die shows a 4. If that sample space is S, S={(4,1),(4,2),(4,3),(4,4),(4,5),(4,6)} There are 6 events. Among them, only one event (4,2) gives you the event "the sum is 6". So your probability would be 1/6

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh i see! Thank you!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i just put it in and it said it was 5/6 as the probability. how did that work

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh sorry it says "at least 6", so the events (4,1) and (4,2) both should be counted. That gives you a probability of 2/6=1/3 I'm not sure about 5/6

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh no wait i got it. "at least 6" that means (4,2), (4,3) (4,4) (4,5) and (4,6) all count. which would make the probability 5/6 because 5 out of the 6 possibilities are at least 6.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh yeah, sorry I'm a bit dizzy :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

lol its cool :) i appreciate the help anyways!
