Which point lies in the solution set for the following system of inequalities? y > x + 4 y > -x + 2 (1, 6) (-2, -1) (-3, 2) (1, 1)

Try inserting each of the answers since this is multiple choice

A?

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

let's check if A is the answer or not

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

if it was, then (1,6) would have to make BOTH inequalities true y > x + 4 6 > 1 + 4 ... plug in x = 1 and y = 6 since we have the point (1,6) 6 > 5 that much is true, so far so good let's check the other inequality y > -x + 2 6 > -1 + 2 ... again plug in x = 1 and y = 6 6 > 1 that's also true since BOTH inequalities are true when you plug in (1,6), this means (1,6) is in the solution set There may be other points in the solution set, so check them all
