what is the difference between connecting link and missing link ?(evolution)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Perhaps by "connecting link" you mean "transitional form", "transitional fossil" or "transitional species." This is the correct term for what scientists consider an intermediate form between two species. As for "missing link", there is no such thing in science. This is a term used by people who don't understand evolution at all .. the idea that we cannot conclude that two species are related to each other until we can find a fossil representing *THE* branching point between the two. This ignores the fact that even if NO fossil had ever been found, we can see that species are connected by common ancestry just by looking at commonalities in DNA.
