If Fishes have hollow bones, then where do RBCs are formed in them?

thomaster (thomaster):

It's the tissue in hollow bones that produces red blood cells? Do you know how it's called?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

No

thomaster (thomaster):

Ever heard of bone marrow? :P

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yeah

thomaster (thomaster):

Well that's where RBC's are formed :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Ohh i got now!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thnx :)

thomaster (thomaster):

you're welcome \(\Huge\ddot\smile\)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

But if I just change my ques. like Birds also have hollow bones and don't have bone marrow in them so where RBCs are formed in them?

thomaster (thomaster):

As far as i know, erythrocytes are only produced in red bone marrow in a process called erythropoiesis.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I don't think they have bone marrow since they have hollow bones which provides them good flight

thomaster (thomaster):

Bone marrow is also in flat bones, birds also have plenty of those.
