x+y<0 graph inequality in a coordinate plane

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

First solve for y x+y < 0 y < 0-x y < -x Now graph the line y = -x Make this a dashed line Then shade below the dashed line

OpenStudy (anonymous):

how do you graph it ?

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

to graph the line y = -x, you need two points to find any point, you plug in a value for x to get corresponding value for y

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

ex: if x = 2, then y = -x y = -2 ... plug in x = 2 so we have the point (2,-2)

oh i understand thanks !

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

that's great, yw

OpenStudy (anonymous):

what type of lines are dotted and waht kinds are solid ?

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

if you have a line under the inequality sign, then it will be a solid boundary line if not, then it will be a dashed boundary line
