What is the value of the y variable in the solution to the following system of equations? 5x + 4y = 1 4x + 3y = -1 -7 7 9 -9

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@Jhannybean help please

OpenStudy (whpalmer4):

Why don't you multiply the first equation by -4, and the second equation by 5. Add the two resultant equations together, and you should end up with an equation in terms of \(y\). Solve that for \(y\) and you have your answer.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so its -7?

OpenStudy (whpalmer4):

show me your work so I can find your mistake :-)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

no its 9 I think

OpenStudy (whpalmer4):

that's better. -7 is a trap answer :-)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

lol thank you :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

what about this? Solve the following system of equations. x - 2y = 6 2x - 4y = 10 Infinitely Many Solutions No Solutions (0, 0) (6, 10)
