A function will not have multiple values of "y" for any given "x". You can tell whether or not this graph represents a function by the vertical line test. If you move a vertical line from left to right and you intersect the graph in more than one point anywhere, you are giving more than one value of "y" for some "x" and you don't have a function.

So, consider the vertical line x=0 (that's the y-axis). Does that line intersect the graph in more than one point? @divagirl421

So, if the intersection is at more than one point, as you correctly identified, you do not have a function, you have a relation. A circle is a good example of a relation. If you had either the upper or lower semi-circle, that would be a function.|dw:1372774686283:dw|
