ILL GIVE A MEDAL Natalie made a mistake in the following problem. Part 1) In which line was the mistake made? Part 2) Show your work and give the correct answer? Line 1 6(4) ÷ 2 − 1 + 5 Line 2 6(4) ÷ 1 + 5 Line 3 24 ÷ 1 + 5 Line 4 24 + 5 Line 5 29

OpenStudy (anonymous):

What line do you think?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

The first one ? She was supposed to do the 6(4) ? @MDoodler

OpenStudy (jdoe0001):

I see at least 2 mistakes there, not just one

OpenStudy (anonymous):

No she can the 6(4) or the other side of the fraction first. It is line 4. Look at if carefully

OpenStudy (anonymous):

But don't you have too do multiplication first ? 6(4) ismultilication @MDoodler

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Line 4 is correct, @MDoodler

OpenStudy (anonymous):

The problem is just like saying \[ \frac{6(4)} { 2 − 1 + 5}\] You can do the stuff on top first or you can do the stuff on the bottom first I will work the whole problem our for you

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Okay @MDoodler

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Sorry I am thinking of equations with a variable. This has no variable so Line 1 from right to left. She should do the times 6(4) and then divide by 2

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yes line one

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so im right ? @MDoodler

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yes ilovejustin. Follow the rules PEMDAS Multiply and then divide starting from right to left

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Left to right I mean

OpenStudy (anonymous):

PEMDAS = Parenthases - Exponents - Multiply - Divide - Add - Subtract. These are the rules you follow from left to right when reading the problem.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Also, I would say line 2 because Line 1 is just the problem but in Line 2 you see where she made her mistake
