Is it possible to go to college to study psychology while in junior year of high school? And what would it take to do that ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yes it is possible. We call it "dual enrollment." The eligibility requirements may be different for every high school/college. If you're interested, try bringing it up with one of your school counselors, or someone who's in charge of helping students choose classes.

Thank you :) Yeah that's at my school also but I never really looked into it .

Absolutely~ Depending on where you live, there's a program called Post Secondary Enrollment/Dual Enrollment where your high school will pay for you to take certain college classes at the college of your choice (you would have to be sure to pick a college that offered the course you were looking for online, although be aware that you are able to take on-campus classes if you choose). Some colleges only accept certain grade levels, such as 10th or up, but some accept all high school levels, as long as you meet their basic admission requirements like minimum GPA and such. I am a ninth grade Honors student and I was accepted into the program with no problem. You can take most classes that you would be able to as a HS graduate, except intro to college courses (i.e. First Year Experience, because the HS cannot justify paying for that) and internships/practicums (because you are under eighteen, therefore a liability in the field). These classes will be credited as both college and high school classes, meaning if you need an English credit in high school, and you take English 101, you have achieved it- and you don't ever need to take English 101 again, even when you go for a degree. You do have to be careful about how the actual credit numbers will differ between HS and college, because they use two different systems, so one college English class may not count as one HS English class. This is something your HS counselor will work out with you to make sure you meet all Grad requirements. When looking at college classes, I would recommend that you don't take any college classes that cover areas you have no experience in, for example Psych without careful review of what you would be getting into by taking the class. The college won't make exceptions for you no matter how old or what grade you are in. The best place to start is with your HS guidance counselor. I'm sure he/she will more than happy to see young student expressing interest in something like this, and there are a lot more resources out there for you than you know. Ask about taking college classes, Post Secondary/Dual Enrollment, and Early Admission. If you have want to ask me anything more, feel free to. I hope this helps- I know I had a lot of confusion and doubt when thinking about this program, but I think it's going to be worth it. I'm taking two English classes at my state college during 10th grade this upcoming school year, and I know I'm going to enjoy them, because English at the HS level is too easy for me. I hope you find what you're looking for from your education and enjoy it lots, even through the challenges (because afterwards, those are the best part- you cried, you figured it out, you succeeded, now you have this huge accomplishment that you know you truly earned!)
