Determine whether y varies directly with x. If so, find the constant of variation k. –7y = –3x A. yes; 3/7 B. yes; 7/3 C. yes; -3 D. no

OpenStudy (jhannybean):

First ask yourself - what is the formula for Direct Variation? When you google this - you'll find that this formula is shown as \(\large \color{green}{ y = kx}\). We've got \(\large \color{red}{-7y=-3x}\) How do we change this to fit the form of direct variation? We divide both sides of the //equation by -7 \[\large \cfrac{-7y}{-7} = \cfrac{-3}{-7}x\] Simplifying both sides of the equation, what do we get?

3/7

OpenStudy (jhannybean):

That's good. \[\large y=\color{blue}{\cfrac{3}{7}}x\]\(\large \cfrac{3}{7}\) is out "k" value.

ok thanks

OpenStudy (jhannybean):

no problem :)

Thank you :)
