Simple Discrete Mathematics Problem: There is a two-storey building. In the first floor of the building are three switches. Only one of the switches is connected to the lights on the second floor. How would you know which switch is connected to the second floor lights when you can only go up once?

lol

hartnn (hartnn):

isn't it same as 3 light bulbs and wall riddle ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

here is a hint: you cannot do it anymore

OpenStudy (anonymous):

why cannot?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@hartnn no idea

OpenStudy (anonymous):

once the puzzle is solved i will say why not

hartnn (hartnn):

ok, then i'll answer.... switch on any 1 ,say 1st light for few minutes , then turn it off and turn on 2nd light then go and check on 2nd floor if the light is on, its 2nd if the light is 'hot' ,and off its 1st if the light is cold and off its 3rd

OpenStudy (anonymous):

it's been solved huh. then i'll think of something original

OpenStudy (anonymous):

and it will not work with modern cfl bulbs since they do not give off much heat

hartnn (hartnn):

^ than i thank him he didn't mention that the bulbs were cfl ;)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

neither would LED i think
