OpenStudy (tardis):

High-pitched sounds are characterized by sound waves which have a __. List all that apply A) High frequency B) Low frequency C) Long wavelength D) Short wavelength E) High amplitude F) Low amplitude So from what I understand, high-pitched sounds have high frequency and thus short wavelengths but I'm rather confused about the amplitude. Can someone please explain?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

You're right. Frequency is characterized as how fast a wave oscillates, whereas amplitude is related to the amount of energy carried by a wave. The more energy that is put into a sound wave, the louder the sound is perceived while the wave oscillation remains the same.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

high pitch - high frequency or low wavelength. As said by danmill1, amplitude gives an idea of loudness of the wave.

OpenStudy (tardis):

I understood what amplitude is but I couldn't understand how it fit into the question. Turns out that I didn't need to add it in at all! Thank you both very much for your responses!
