7 Drugs that Changed the World Article Paraphrase The article is quick to say that not all drugs or medicine has had an impact on society. In fact, the article mentions that there are seven drugs that have. The first drug mentioned was called pancrein, which was described to be closely like that of insulin. The article also goes on to say that Nicolas C. Paulescu was the first to have discovered the insulin like drug, pancrein, before insulin was discovered. The second drug, aspirin, was noted as the most commonly used drug for pain relief. Unfortunately, Arthur Eichengrün tried to claim its invention and disclaim inventor Felix Hoffmann, but was downplayed by the company who introduced it, Bayer AG. The third drug, chlorpromazine, was noted as psychopharmacological revolution. It was so successful, that it was also used for anxiety and depression. The fourth drug, mechlorethamine, was noted as a cancer fighting drug. It even became the first drug to be approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration. The fifth drug, zidovudine, was noted as the breakthrough in HIV/AIDS treatment through life prolongation. As a result, the annual death from AIDS drastically declined. The sixth drug, hormonal contraception, was originally tested on animals, but became utilized on humans. Such drug was approved in the U.S. in 1960. The seventh drug, penicillin, was noted as the most effective life-saving antibiotic. These seven drugs that were discussed are by far the most historical and enlightening drugs to have been quite revolutionary in society and in the medical field.
