trig stuff

OpenStudy (anonymous):

which tri identities would you suggest to simplify this function: \[\sin(4t+5)\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@amistre64

OpenStudy (anonymous):

trig*

OpenStudy (amistre64):

factor out the 4 to get 4(t+5/4), then let u = t + 5/4

OpenStudy (amistre64):

sin(4u)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

wait, how is that using any trig identities?

OpenStudy (amistre64):

its not a trig identity, its just a u substitution ....

OpenStudy (amistre64):

i wouldnt suggest any identities to simplify a plain old sin function

OpenStudy (anonymous):

but the question asks to use them.

OpenStudy (amistre64):

then use the sin(a+b) if need be from the other question

OpenStudy (amistre64):

sin(a+b) = sin(a)cos(b) + sin(b)cos(a0

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok thanks!

OpenStudy (amistre64):

yep
