The volume of a stick of butter is 5 cubic inches. If the length is 5 inches, what are the width and the height of this stick of butter if the bases are square? A. width = 0.5 in; length = 0.5 in .. B. width = 1 in; length = 1 in C. width = 1.5 in; length = 1.5 in .. D. width = 2 in; length = 2 in\ THIS DOES NOT MAKE SENSE TO ME. WOULD NOT THE H &W be 1" .. I do not understand answer choice HELP!!!

A. width = 0.5 in; length = 0.5 in B. width = 1 in; length = 1 in C. width = 1.5 in; length = 1.5 in D. width = 2 in; length = 2 in

OpenStudy (ivettef365):

V = l x w x h

I have four choices and it does not match the answers I have been given to choose from

OpenStudy (radar):

The problem gives the length as 5 inches, then in the choices it asks for the length ???? There must be a typo or something else is awry.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I thought so, I have drove myself crazy about this.. thank you very much.

OpenStudy (radar):

However, if the length is indeed 5 in, then the h and w product would have to be 1 in.

OpenStudy (radar):

In view of that, I think they want B

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I know but I still have no multiply choice tp match

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I am going to put B.. thanks

OpenStudy (radar):

True, but if they mean height (h) instead of length in B, then 1 X 1 X 5 would equal 5 cubic in. I know because Paula Dean told me so.
