It takes 11 jumps. He won't slip from 12 to 11 on the last jump because he's already at the top. You are basically counting the elements in the following: 2, 3, 4, . . . , 12 which is 11 each element is the position before the slip but after the jump.
well, why would a monkey be jumping on a bare pole anyway? is not like it has figs or bananas, so really on every jump the monkey is wasting 2 meters plus momentum of eneergy :P
