The slope of a line is –2 and its y-intercept is (0, 3). What is the equation of the line that is parallel to the first line and passes through (2, 2) A. 2x + y = 6 B. y = –2x + 3 C. y= 1/2x+ 6 D. y = –2x – 6

OpenStudy (jdoe0001):

well, the 2nd line is parallel to the 1st one, \(\bf \text{parallel lines have the same slope}\) so the 2nd line has a slope of -2, and passes through (2, 2) \(\bf m = -2, \\x_1 = 2,\\ y_1 = 2\) use the point-slope form \(\huge y-y_1=m(x-x_1)\) to get the equaton, by plugging those values in, and solving for "y"
