help me understand what side to shade for > or < or >/ or \<

OpenStudy (anonymous):

whats the problem though

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I know how to solve it I just don't know how to shade t=it with the inequalities

OpenStudy (zzr0ck3r):

imagine you are walking on the curve/line. if you are shading y> then you are shading all the stuff above you

OpenStudy (anonymous):

well for example if x>4 you would shade everything to the right of 4

OpenStudy (anonymous):

the other guy's example is better

OpenStudy (zzr0ck3r):

mine is a good example for y > something his is better for x>something

OpenStudy (anonymous):

okay so if y<4 it would be at the bottom.?

OpenStudy (zzr0ck3r):

yep

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yess

OpenStudy (zzr0ck3r):

you are walking on a line y=4 and it would be all the stuff below you, NOT including the line. If it was y<=4 then you would include the line

OpenStudy (anonymous):

same rules apply for x

OpenStudy (zzr0ck3r):

this will work for x^2 x^3....from left to right, its the stuff above you.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

okay. I think I understand it now.
