@Directrix can u help me plz :/

OpenStudy (luigi0210):

Find the area of the square.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

32 :/

OpenStudy (luigi0210):

Square-circle

OpenStudy (luigi0210):

Area of a square: A=s^2

Directrix (directrix):

The two semi-circles form one circle of radius 8. What is the area of a circle of radius 8? Find the area of the square. Subtract the circle area from the area of the square. That is the gray section. Post your answer and I will compare mine with your answer. See attached schematic.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

the area of the circle would be 200.96 :/

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so it would be 256 - 200.96 :/ = 55.04 :/ @Directrix

Directrix (directrix):

Let's see. Do we need the exact answer or or we to get a decimal approximation?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

im guessing the exact answer but if needed to round it :/

Directrix (directrix):

256 - 64 pi is what I got.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

how did u get that o.O

Directrix (directrix):

That comes out to be 54.9380 if approximated.

Directrix (directrix):

>>how did u get that o.O What is the area of the square? ----> Post. @Danny_Boy

OpenStudy (anonymous):

the are of the square is 256 but i mean how did u get 64 :/

OpenStudy (anonymous):

because in oder to find the area u need to pi times 8 times 8 right :/

Directrix (directrix):

The area of a cirlce is pi times the square of the radius. The radius is 8. Area of circle is pi times 8 times 8 = 64 pi --> area of circle

Directrix (directrix):

>because in oder to find the area u need to pi times 8 times 8 right :/ YES

Directrix (directrix):

Then, subtract the circle area from the square area to get the gray area.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

then when i ,multiply that i keep getting 200.96 :/

Directrix (directrix):

What did you multiply to get 200.96? Please don't add the :/ behind every post you make. Doing so makes me think you think you are weak and I know you are strong. Talk positive to yourself.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

hahah ok then i multiply 3.14 x 8 x8 and i get that

Directrix (directrix):

200.96 is 64 times pi. Subtract 200.96 from the square area of 16 times 16, and you will get the correct decimal answer.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ohhhh hahahah i c that when i do that i get this 55.04

Directrix (directrix):

That comes out to be 54.9380 if approximated. Close enough. Now, what are the answer options? Anything that looks like 54.9380?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i have no options

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so that is my answer ???

Directrix (directrix):

Exact answer is 256 - 64 pi. Approximated answer is 54.9380. You'll have to read the problem instructions to determine if the exact answer or approximate decimal answer is asked for.

Directrix (directrix):

If necessary, round your answer to two decimal places.

Directrix (directrix):

54.94

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok i think it will be the decimal cuz it ask to round

Directrix (directrix):

54.94 square units

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yeah that was correct thank u so much man sorry that it took long i just really want to get this right :)

Directrix (directrix):

Alright, then. Remember, no more putting yourself down! Think positive thoughts about your math work.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

alright thank u
