y=x^2+8x+14 I have to solve by factoring, and I'm stumped. I know it's not a perfect square, so I don't really know what to do. Please help! Thanks!
do u remember... 2 numbers that multiply result 14 and added result in 8
You can do the cross multiplication method: http://www.mathsteacher.com.au/year9/ch08_factors/07_cross/mult.htm
but 7 and 2 dont add up to 8

nothing works though
You can do completing the square. http://www.purplemath.com/modules/sqrquad.htm

I have to do graphing, factoring, quadratic equation, and completing the square. Thats the thing. I have everything else done except factoring. @dauspex
Ohh. The last resort is to have fraction / decimal factorials for the 14. Let me try
I cheated by using a quadratic equation solver: x = -2.585786437626905 x = -5.414213562373095 Thus (x + 5.414213562373095) (x + 2.585786437626905) Impossible to do by cross multiplication. @musicalcat98
Okat thank you! @dauspex
