OpenStudy (explainitlikeimfive):

What polynomial has a graph that passes through the given points? (-2, 2) (-1, -1) (1, 5) (3, 67) A. y = -x^3 + 4x^2 + 2x - 2 B. y = x^3 + 4x^2 + 2x - 2 C. y = x^4 + 4x^3 + 2x^2 - 2x D. y = x^3 - 4x^2 - 2x - 2

OpenStudy (amistre64):

synthetic division might help :)

OpenStudy (campbell_st):

pick a point and start substituting when you have equations try the next point

OpenStudy (amistre64):

-x^3 + 4x^2 + 2x - 2 0 2 -12 12 -2 -1 6 -10 (10) ; looks like (-2,10) is that point

OpenStudy (amistre64):

guess it doesnt work that way :/

OpenStudy (explainitlikeimfive):

So I cant use synthetic division?

OpenStudy (amistre64):

i think you can .... but for some reason i get 18 for P(-2) might need to change the sign but that just seems odd to me

OpenStudy (amistre64):

-x^3 + 4x^2 + 2x - 2 0 -2 4 12 2 -1 2 6 (10) ; looks like (-2,10) is that point guess that doesnt pan out either I spose im confusing the divide by (x+2) and get a remainder thrm ....

OpenStudy (explainitlikeimfive):

Thanks. I think I can take it from here.

OpenStudy (amistre64):

good luck :)
