AS A COLLEGE FRESHMAN AT FAU, would it be too much for me if i take more than 4 classes? would 5 or 6 be too much?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@Preetha

OpenStudy (chelseatheruler):

Take 4 classes.. It's so much easier.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

depends what the classes are? and how many hours each

OpenStudy (anonymous):

12 hours is the minimum for full time

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i have 12 hours down so far but what if i could get more done and be ahead

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i don't wanna hinder myself but @robz8 i will screenshot my schedule

OpenStudy (anonymous):

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Some colleges/universities offer some courses during the summer. They're a lot shorter however and u probably have 2 do more work.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

well summer is almost over ...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i start school next month ... i wanna get work done but i don't want 2 do too much

OpenStudy (primeralph):

Take 5 or 6 depending on how many credits you already have. Have you decided on a major?

OpenStudy (primeralph):

Those classes are easy. You can take 5 or 6.

OpenStudy (primeralph):

Also, do they use the quarter or semester system? That's a major factor.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

semester

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so should i just add an elective class like college algebra @primeralph

OpenStudy (primeralph):

Yeah, what's your major? If you picked ENGR, then you wanna do Calculus ASAP.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

naw i didnt pick that

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i picked pre-business

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@primeralph

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i have methods of calculus tho

OpenStudy (primeralph):

Pre-business? Why?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

accounting

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i need 30 credits before i can have the accouting title for my major

OpenStudy (primeralph):

Oh well, have you talked to a counselor?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yeah

OpenStudy (anonymous):

but they alwys rush me off the fluttering phone

OpenStudy (anonymous):

they have alot of students to deal with

OpenStudy (primeralph):

Okay, well are you smart?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yeah lol

OpenStudy (anonymous):

advanced classes my whole life

OpenStudy (primeralph):

So take at least 5 classes; unless you plan to spend your first semester partying.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

okay

OpenStudy (anonymous):

should i get college algebra out the way?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i will screenshot the cirriculum sheet

OpenStudy (primeralph):

Why are they even making you take algebra? Well, get it out as soon as you can. There are other classes that you need more.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

it's an elective class @primeralph but we need to knock out a certain # of electives before graduation

OpenStudy (primeralph):

@coolieslim Okay then. Go for it. Trust me, first semester isn't a big deal. Everything will sort itself out eventually. In my time I just did some random stuff at first, but I chose difficult classes.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@primeralph is it better to choose difficult classes in the beginning?

OpenStudy (primeralph):

If you think you can handle them, yes. So you'll have time for internships etc later.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@coolieslim it is not too much, you will finish college sooner and possibly shorten college by a year, I have a sister who graduated in 3 years but it's all on you because it takes time out of your social life and depends whether cut friendship time for school work, it all depends but my sister still goes out and parties so taking more classes helps to get most classes out of the way

OpenStudy (anonymous):

okay true

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@primeralph i didnt think about that part about having time for internships

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@brianjr227 have u seen my schedule so far?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

12 hours with 2 english, a sociology, and just 1 math isn't that much... you should take another elective

OpenStudy (primeralph):

@coolieslim Yeah take them now so you'll chill later.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

okay what are the best careers to get with an engineering degree?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@primeralph

OpenStudy (primeralph):

Hmm well, what do you like to do? I'd say it depends on if you want money or innovation.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i like to help people, do math, organize and count money

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i also like anything dealing with cosmetics as well

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i like other cultures i'm fluent in spanish, i like to travel

OpenStudy (primeralph):

Well, you like to do money stuff, go accounting. If you like to mess with stuff and create new stuff, go engineering.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

okay, i just don't want to major in accounting and find out i can't get a job

OpenStudy (anonymous):

but flutter a job i want a career

OpenStudy (anonymous):

any major in business will open you up to a ton of different jobs not all accounting majors become only accountants...

OpenStudy (primeralph):

No, there will always be people who want their money in good hands. Business majors are widespread. The only problem is, you walk a straight line. Meaning you don'y do anything new.

OpenStudy (primeralph):

*don't

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i was considering doing a double major, but would that be too much?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

if you don't know if double majoring will be too much or not... it will be too much for you

OpenStudy (primeralph):

In Engineering and Business? No. People do it all the time. It's not that hard.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i didn't think it would be a problem but my mom keeps trying to scare me out of it

OpenStudy (primeralph):

Well, if you start it and don't like it, you can stop.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

but would i be wasting money @primeralph

OpenStudy (primeralph):

I think what you should do is look at the curriculum and see if you can handle it. I could show you what a typical engineer will take in college. PM.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@primeralph she obviously does not have an interest in engineering, i don't know why you keep bringing it up

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i've seen the cirriculum sheet all ive seen its nothing i haven't done before

OpenStudy (anonymous):

as far as math

OpenStudy (primeralph):

@robz8 Thought she talked about double majoring in ENGR.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@coolieslim im sure you are talking probably already hard classes, but i recommend not taking any more if you have to spend alot of time already now. Is this a private school or public?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

im going to FAU

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i think for now i will leave what i have.. coz its only first semester

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i can always knock out more credits with summer classes

OpenStudy (anonymous):

more semesters = more $$$

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i have financial aid

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@coolieslim oh i might go there but anyways just stick to your schedule and it doesn't cost more money if its a public school @robz8

OpenStudy (anonymous):

only for other expenses

OpenStudy (anonymous):

my worst fear is wasting time and not taking advantage of time

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@brianjr227 for fall and spring semester, you pay the same if you are a full time student (between 12-19 hours). during the summer you pay per course. so yes, it does cost more money if you take summer courses instead of taking them in the fall or spring

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh pellet does financial aid cover it?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

you would have to apply for financial aid over the summer

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@robz8 oh okay yea that's pretty obvious.. I didn't see the recent comment for taking classes in the summer so in that case yes

OpenStudy (anonymous):

okay @primeralph i need 30 credits before i can major in accounting

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@primeralph majoring in accounting wouldn't be a mistake, right?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

..?

OpenStudy (primeralph):

Well, No, it wont be. It all depends on your dreams.
