OpenStudy (anonymous):

why would you use the points (3,-4) and (-1,-8) to determine the average rate of change of the function g(x)=-x²+3x-4 on the interval -1≤x≤3

OpenStudy (amistre64):

what is the value of g(-1)? and of g(3)? (-1, g(-1)) and (3,g(3)) are the endpoints

OpenStudy (amistre64):

\[avg=\frac{g(3)-g(-1)}{3-1}\] its just the slope formula

OpenStudy (anonymous):

when i do g(3) i get -7 ? :S

OpenStudy (anonymous):

wait nvm

OpenStudy (amistre64):

adding and multiplying .... the bane of math :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i keep making careless mistakes today :(

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thanks for the help @amistre64

OpenStudy (anonymous):

this time i go g(3)=-4 and g(-1)=-8

OpenStudy (anonymous):

got*

OpenStudy (amistre64):

youre welcome, and we all keep making careless mistakes ... its just the way the pencil pushes
