A square plot measures 180 square feet. A second plot measures 405 square feet. How many more feet will the second plot require over that required for the first?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I thought it would look like sqrt405 -sqrt180. That gave me 9sqrt5-6sqrt5= 3sqrt 5 But the answer is 12sqrt5. What did I do wrong?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I'm not sure I understand the question. What does it mean, how many feet the plot requires?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I think it just means how many more is the second than the first... I may be wrong though

OpenStudy (anonymous):

A is area,s is the length of the side and P is the perimeter of each plot A square plot measures 180 square feet s1=root 180=root 36.5=6 root 5.P=4.s1=4.6 root 5=24 root 5 A second square plot measure 405 square feet s2=root 405=root 81.5=9 root 5,P=4.S2=4.9 root 5=36 root 5

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so now we get 36 root 5-24 root 5=12 root 5

That was a difficult one! thank you.
