Form a union for the following sets. K = {2, 3, 5, 8} L = {3, 5, 7}

OpenStudy (anonymous):

\[K cup L=\left\{ 2,3,5,7,8 \right\}\]

OpenStudy (unklerhaukus):

the union of two is sets, is a set with the elements that appear in either (or both) sets, (don't repeat any element)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So, i cant repeat any number in the union?

OpenStudy (unklerhaukus):

that's right, any element should appear in a set, at most once

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So if i cant repeat any number, it would be {2, 7, 8} since group K only has 2 and 8, while group L only has3?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

7*

OpenStudy (unklerhaukus):

when i said dont repeat i mean like: if X={a,b,c}, Y={c,d,e} the union would be X ∪ Y = {a,b,c} ∪ {c,d,e} = {a,b,c,d,e} the union is like you merge the two sets (note that both sets have 'c' but there is only one 'c' in the union)
