Select an ordered pair from the choices below -5x>4-7y 3y-4x>18 1. (4,-5) 2. (3,4) 3.(-1,5) 4.(1,-1)

OpenStudy (theeric):

I think you can just plug in the points and see if they work. Otherwise, you can solve the inequalities for practice!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I know how to plug them in and do the work but I don't understand how to tell if the answer is right.

OpenStudy (theeric):

Alright! So, if you're plugging the multiple choice answers in and doing the work, you'll get\[something\gt something\]and\[something\gt something\] Both of those must be "true." Like, if you read it as a sentence, you shouldn't be lying. For example, \(5\gt 100\), lie. So if your multiple choice answer gives you something like that, it's wrong.

OpenStudy (theeric):

You could, maybe, use the two inequalities to make one... Maybe...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Alright i'm going to try this out again. Thank you :)

OpenStudy (theeric):

Yeah, I'll be here until you're done, just in case you have more questions!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I have eliminated the first two im trying th next two. Sorry im taking long

OpenStudy (theeric):

Not a problem! I'm on here anyway! The time it's taking.. Maybe there's a faster way! There is graphing \(\rightarrow\) http://www.purplemath.com/modules/syslneq.htm

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Is the last one correct??

OpenStudy (theeric):

Let's see. \[-5x>4-7y\\\qquad\downarrow\\-5(1)\gt4-7(-1)\\\qquad\downarrow\\-5\gt4+7\\\qquad\downarrow\\-5\gt 11\] I don't think so..

OpenStudy (theeric):

http://www.wolframalpha.com/input/?i=-5x%3E4-7y+AND+3y-4x%3E18 there is an inequality plot. Have you been taught about them?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

No I don't understand that

OpenStudy (theeric):

I see... And you tried all of the choices?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yeah my math is probably just wring somewhere im going over it agian

OpenStudy (theeric):

Try #3 again first...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

The first part I got 5>-35 But the second part I got 11>18

OpenStudy (anonymous):

or does it become 15+4=19 and is 19<18?

OpenStudy (theeric):

\[3y-4x>18\\\qquad\downarrow\\3(5)-4(-1)\gt 18\\\qquad\downarrow\\15-^-4\gt18\] You hit the nail on the head! Congrats!

OpenStudy (theeric):

:)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Haha love that expresseion :) lol Thank you :)

OpenStudy (theeric):

19>18

OpenStudy (theeric):

Just for fun... \(\huge\color{blue}{\large\ \ o\ o\ \\\smile}\)

OpenStudy (theeric):

\[15+^+4\gt 18\\\qquad\downarrow\\19\gt 18\]

OpenStudy (theeric):

Thanks!
