If you wanted to eliminate the y variable by adding the two equations in the following system, what could be your first step? 5x − 6y = 6 x − y = 12 Add the two equations together Multiply the second equation by −6 Multiply the first equation by −6 Multiply the second equation by 6

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

you need to have opposite coeffecients for y in both equations so that when u add, they get eliminated

OpenStudy (anonymous):

-6

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

speak out a bit more... :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

idk can u solve the questions and show mw how to do it

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

you're mostly there, -6 is the coeffecient of y in the first equation

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

-1 is the coefficient of y in the second equation

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

but you want to make it +6 so u need to multiply the second equation with -6

OpenStudy (anonymous):

like show me the steps how to do it

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

the question doesnt ask u to solve it as such

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ik but im so confuse how to do this

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

its ok :) read my replies above

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i got it

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

great !

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thank you!

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):
