I need some ideas here for a paper, so any thoughts, links, facts, everything much appreciated. Why (proof-oriented) math began in Greece and not somewhere else?

found this: http://www.math.wustl.edu/~sk/eolss.pdf

well we aren't discussing the originations of mathematics, just why the proof side of mathematics began in Greece... and my professor says, so I am sure that has to be some information to support this claim even if it is debatable.

As far as I know (and don't take my word for it, I haven't studied the history of math), Greece was the "birthplace" of philosophical reasoning and logic. But that's only because I haven't heard of any other civilization to be known for it. A wikipedia article may be your best bet, if only to get a general idea: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Logic

The history section in particular mentions the development of logic in other corners of the globe, such as China and India, but primarily says logic was developed by the Greek Aristotle.
