Factor sin(^2)x + sinx -2 in the terms of a single trigonometric function

OpenStudy (campbell_st):

well this is a quadratic equation where instead of x your have sin(x) so what are the factors of the constant term, -2 that add to 1 the larger factor is positive.

OpenStudy (campbell_st):

so the factored form is (sin(x) + factor 1)(sin(x) + factor 2)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Oh! So it just works out as if it were a quadratic? (sin(x) +2)(sin(x)-1) ?

OpenStudy (campbell_st):

thats it... easier than it looks...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

That's for sure! Thank you!

OpenStudy (noelgreco):

Just remember: it can be treated like a quadratic, but it isn't one.
