Why did the Cold War start?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Why did the Cold War start? At the end of World War II, the Soviet Union and the United States competed for global influence and power. At the start of World War II, Hitler's pact with Stalin forced the United States to attack the Soviets before they joined the Allies. At the end of World War II, Stalin believed that the United States and other western democracies were preparing to attack. At the end of the Korean War, the Soviet Union believed the United States had successfully stopped the spread of communism in Asia.

OpenStudy (nincompoop):

because it was cold and people needed heat

OpenStudy (goldphenoix):

LOL.

OpenStudy (goldphenoix):

First off, they named it the Cold War because the two super-power, USA and Soviet Union, owned Nuclear weapons.

OpenStudy (nincompoop):

no...

OpenStudy (goldphenoix):

It wasn't? o_O

OpenStudy (nincompoop):

the two countries involved gave each other cold shoulders

OpenStudy (goldphenoix):

Oh. Your giving me cold shoulders. >_< I'll keep that in mind.

OpenStudy (goldphenoix):

I know it can't be D because the Korean War occured during the Cold War. It's either A or C because the Cold War started in 1947, 2 years after the end of WWII.

OpenStudy (nincompoop):

only A

OpenStudy (goldphenoix):

I'm going to go with A because Soviet Union wanted China, and the rest of Asia to become Communism. USA doesn't want the rest of Asia to become Communism because if so, then the Soviet Union would have too much power.
