Create a linear function please

y=x

Are you familiar with what a linear function is in general? It is a polynomial of degree "1". If you look at the slope-intercept form for a line, the general form is already present there: y = mx + b Here, the exponent on the "x" term is an assumed "1". The "b" is for "x" to the "zero" power. Here is a very good website for further info: http://www.algebra-class.com/linear-functions.html

thanks!

So, the general form, which is also the slope-intercept form: y = mx + b can be used to create any linear function, not just linear functions as in the first post to your question that must go through the origin.

You are welcome! So, just fill in anything you want for "m" and "b".
