Probabilities can be added only when events are independent. True Or False.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

is this really what the question says exactly?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i think you are supposed to say False, you add when the events are mutually exclusive but the question as phrased is ridiculous probabilities are numbers, and you can always add numbers

OpenStudy (lncognlto):

if A and B are mutually exclusive then P(A ∩ B) = 0 and P(A U B) = P(A) + P(B) if A and B are independent then P(A ∩ B) = P(A)*P(B)

OpenStudy (lncognlto):

So probabilities are multiplied when events are independent, and added when they are mutually exclusive.
