how do you write the standard equation for the circle with center (–2, 5) that passes through (1, 9).?

OpenStudy (campbell_st):

well the standard form is \[(x - h)^2 + (y - k)^2 = r^2\] the circle has a centre at (h, k) and radius r you need to substitute your centre, h = -2 and k = 5 into the above equation. then substitute the point on the circumference x = 1 and y= 9 to find the value of r^2 then you'll have the standard form of the circle.
